Our Employee Development department is looking for a Safety Education Specialist to join their team!
Reporting to the Director - Employee Development, you will design, develop, coordinate, implement, deliver, and evaluate safety training programs for supervisors, Joint Health & Safety (JHSC) members, and staff, ensuring alignment with the Safety, Health & Environment Management System and corporate safety initiatives.
As the Safety Education Specialist, you will be responsible for managing the safety training program. This includes developing and delivering safety training courses such as incident investigation and hazard/risk assessment. You will identify training needs, develop materials, pilot, test, and evaluate programs, and customize third-party materials to ensure continuous improvement.
You will collaborate closely with the Safety & Environment Department to develop and update safety training programs and align training with safety objectives and corporate initiatives.
In terms of JHSC Certification Training, you will deliver Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) approved training, update materials to meet standards and legislative changes, and ensure instructors' professional development and compliance with MLITSD audits.
You will provide consultation and guidance by advising supervisors and JHSC on safety training, offering specialized training, and facilitating seminars.
Your role will also involve planning and coordinating training programs, instructing or arranging for qualified instructors, providing cross-training, and collaborating with other departments.
Additionally, you will assist with business planning and budgeting, substitute for the Director as needed.

As the Safety Education Specialist, you will bring comprehensive knowledge and experience in:
Adult Education Principles: You have a strong understanding of adult education principles and experience in applying them to course design and delivery.
Training Needs Assessment: You are skilled in the techniques and methodologies of training needs assessment, program design, delivery, and evaluation.
Safety Training: You have extensive experience in safety training, including knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and associated regulations. You are familiar with specific health and safety programs such as incident investigation, workplace inspection, and hazard/risk assessment.
Facilitation and Presentation Skills: You possess highly developed facilitation and engaging presentation skills, along with strong written communication abilities.
Computer and Audio-Visual (AV) Proficiency: You have strong knowledge of various computer software and AV platforms which you use to prepare documentation, reports, and various types of training materials.
Interpersonal Skills: You are a collaborative team player with well-developed interpersonal skills, enabling you to regularly interact with a diverse client base, both internally and externally.
Educational Background: You have completed post-secondary education in a related discipline and have demonstrated experience in complaint resolution. Alternatively, a combination of education, training, and experience deemed equivalent is integral to your success in this role.
