Career Opportunity

The Rail Cars and Shops team is looking for a Senior Industrial Engineer!

This position will be responsible for supervising and directing the work of TTC Staff while overseeing the production of Design Drawings and Specifications.

The role may also manage and coordinate projects, represent the section on development reviews, and assist with the day to day management and supervision of the section.

What You Will Do

  • Perform and supervise engineering design for the maintenance, repair, alteration and/or construction of different types of equipment and participate in all aspects of construction support.
  • Direct and review engineering design and related reporting prepared by assigned staff which may include Engineers, Engineering Technologists, Design Draftspersons and outside consultants.
  • Manage and coordinate various projects and/or contracts, and work with design staff to establish work plans and requirements.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary communications to establish and provide information required from/to other disciplines to produce a coordinated set of drawings and specifications.
  • Review submissions for development of projects.
  • Provide back up support to the department/section as required.
  • Prepare documents, presentations, and reports for use by the department/section, and distribute to the appropriate parties in accordance with established standards.
  • Provide construction and/or operations support including field review and inspection services for assigned work/projects.
  • Promotes a respectful work and service environment that supports diversity, inclusion, and is free from harassment and discrimination.
  • Supervise the commissioning and pre-start safety reviews of new shop equipment.
  • Provides leadership in the development and implementation of inclusive and accessible policies, programs and/or services for employees and customers in accordance with TTC's commitments and obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) and Related Orders, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and TTC's policies.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline (i.e. Industrial, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering) or combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • Registration with the Professional Engineers Ontario is mandatory.
  • Requires comprehensive knowledge of industrial engineering principles, methods and practices.
  • Must be knowledgeable of project management concepts/practices.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of legislation for pertinent labour, safety, health and environmental issues.
  • Must possess sound judgement; demonstrated analytical, problem solving and costing skills; strong work systems design skills combined with organizational and strategic planning ability; effective interpersonal, verbal communication and technical report writing skills.
  • Requires strong computer skills for programs used to gather, analyze and report data.
  • Must have the ability to direct and coordinate the activities of others in order to accomplish objectives.
  • Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
