What You Will Do

Reporting to the Assistant Manager, Engineering Services, this position is responsible for the GIS mapping, surveying, CADD and related technical support of all subway and subway-related infrastructure. The incumbent defines standards and best practices for the mapping; directs, instructs, supervises and evaluates the work of both professional and technical staff, consultants and contractors in the preparation of specifications for related contract documents; performs field surveys, data calculations and analysis and CADD drafting; conducts investigations and studies; plans, manages and coordinates projects; maintains surveying and mapping records; takes professional responsibility for work as required by the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors under the Surveyors Act of Ontario; assists with the day to day management and supervision of survey work as required.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

• Your application will demonstrate in-depth knowledge of mapping and surveying methods and practices for the design and construction of transit projects with emphasis on research, presentation and management of geospatial mapping and surveying data.
• Your application will also demonstrate knowledge of engineering surveys, alignment, clearance, grading, drainage and utilities engineering for urban transit projects.
• Your educational background includes a University degree in Surveying, Survey Engineering, Geomatics or a related field, as well as several years of directly responsible working experience in the surveying environment or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Registration as a licensed professional Ontario Land Surveyor is mandatory.
• You must possess a valid, non-probationary Province of Ontario Class G driving license
• Sound knowledge of track construction practices, and track design concepts.
• Proficiency in Geographic Coordinate Systems their relationships and conversions, GPS vs UTM and City surveying practices.
• Proven knowledge and experience operating various survey instruments (theodolites, total stations, digital levels etc.).
• Ability to analyse the root causes of problems related to track geometry, and suggest solutions.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the OHSA (Occupational Health & Safety Act).
• Knowledge of project management concepts and practices and ability to carry out and coordinate projects and studies.
• Possess sound judgment, strong analytical, problem solving and organizational ability; effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to plan, coordinate and direct activities of employees, as well as the ability to communicate and coordinate with contractors.
• Possess effective technical report writing and presentation skills.
• Ability to research and compile complex property maps using software tools such as TeraView, Coordinate Geometry, Bentley GeoGraphics, Bentley Map, FME, Microsoft Access and Microsoft VBA.
• Ability to produce and direct the production of drawings using MicroStation CADD software.
