We are looking for a Senior Risk Control Advisor to join our team in our Toronto office!

As a Senior Risk Control Advisor, you will be responsible for guiding all activities relating to fire protection, risk engineering, and risk control.

Your day as a Risk Control Advisor:

  • Conduct site surveys at client's facilities (property, general and product liability, fleet).
  • Produce risk reports (underwriting report for insurance market, risk assessments, recommendation reports etc.).
  • Produce loss estimates calculations (PML, MFL, NLE, etc.).
  • Support brokers in placement process by providing information on risk exposures and insurer subjectivities.
  • Advice clients on risk exposures and control measures.
  • Develop and support risk control programs for large clients.
  • Analyze and prioritize insurer recommendations.
  • Support research and development practice on any technical issues and considerations.
  • Support building valuation practice.
  • Assist in the enhancement of buildings.
  • Review and assist clients in the design of building mechanics and fire protection projects.
  • Revise hydraulic plans and calculations based on applicable standards.
  • Carry out certain expertise in the field of fire protection and produce reports.
  • Develop yourself on the practice of risk assessment and control in general: prepare underwriting reports for the insurance market, risk assessments, and recommendation reports, support brokers in the investment process by providing information on risk exposures and insurers' subjectivities, advise clients on risk exposures and control measures, assist with loss estimation calculations, support the practice of building valuation.

Our ideal candidate

  • Experience in risk control with a broker, insurer or in-house for a large organization.
  • Experience in site inspection, risk control and/or fire protection.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering; Diploma in fire protection or applied sciences or other relevant training.
  • Good understanding of occupational health and safety.
  • Knowledge of NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) and FM (Factory Mutual) standards.
  • Knowledge of building construction and related codes, as well as building mechanics.
  • Knowledge of one or more hydraulic calculation software (HydraCalc or equivalent).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good knowledge of the MS Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, and Word)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
