We're currently seeking an experienced Senior Substation Physical Electrical Engineer with a record of accomplishment in delivering Substation Physical engineering design and engineering packages for utility and utility-scale renewable energy and distributed generation projects. The successful candidate will assist us in expanding our scope of services in the growing renewable energy fueled power generation market.

This position can be worked out of our Toronto, Calgary, or Ottawa offices.

The Opportunity

  • Lead the design of Substation Physical engineering design and engineering packages for utility and utility-scale renewable projects.
  • Prepare construction drawings for substation like General Arrangement, Equipment Plans, Section views, Bill of Materials, Grounding Plans, below grade conduit/Raceway plans, and specifications for medium and high-voltage electrical systems and equipment.
  • Participate the overall design of full electrical systems for HV/MV substation, including solar plant design, power, distributed generation, energy storage, microgrid, control and signaling systems.
  • Participate in proposal preparation, preparing Arup submission material including scope and resource planning.
  • Preparing high-quality technical and consulting reports for studies related to substation design.
  • Preform key studies like grounding (step and touch), bus force calculation and lightning protection (Rolling Sphere or Direct Angle).
  • Mentor and develop junior staff, promote learning from successes and problems within the group.
  • Maintain, foster and develop client relationships

The Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering
  • At least 6 years' experience in the engineering & design of utility-scale substation for power generation, power storage, solar, wind and transmission facilities.
  • Sound understanding of IEEE substation design standards related to physical aspects.
  • Experience with power system studies (lightning, auxiliary transformer sizing, grounding) is preferred
  • EIT is desired, PE license and NCEES accreditation for comity to USA states is preferred
  • AutoCAD experience is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage junior engineers, other technical and support staff.
  • Experience working and collaborating with clients to achieve agreed goals and results.
  • The ability to prioritize effectively, balance assigned work and exceptional organization skills required for our constantly evolving environment

Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Toronto is $98,000 to $120,000 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Toronto will differ.
