Senior Technical Security Specialist IT - Security & Telecom (Job ID: 6848)

The Information Technology department performs an enablement and support role for Unity Health Toronto. It pursues a cooperative and collaborative approach with both management and staff to deploy information technology and systems that support continuous Quality Improvement in all aspects of the Hospital.

Unity Health Toronto provides extensive computing and automation technologies to support its Clinical, Research, Education and Administration staff in the performance of their duties.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In collaboration with other teams, reviews and recommends secure system configurations related to hospital systems;
  • Evaluates, and assesses security architecture requirements for systems environments and IT projects;
  • Designs, maintains and configures devices that protects the perimeter and the internal network;
  • Troubleshooting the most complex technical issues relating to Unity Health Toronto's sophisticated IT Security Fabric;
  • Works with other partners external to Unity Health for secure communication and data transfer;
  • Review emerging security technologies, security controls testing and conduct vulnerability assessments and penetration testing as required and providing technical recommendations based on their experience and knowledge;
  • Assist in the enforcement of policies, procedures, access controls and associated plans for information security based on industry best practice and management direction;
  • Troubleshoots and investigate complex security related issues and events;
  • Monitor current trends of vulnerabilities, malware and intrusions and recommend enhancements or remediation to current security systems;
  • Conduct risk management, threat management, disaster recovery and security assessments for the organization;
  • Monitors the external and internal environments to maintain knowledge and awareness of IT security threats;
  • Keeps current and up to date with existing and potential threats by connecting/consulting with expert sources of information;
  • Reviews existing Vendor connections within the Hospital and assess/evaluate risks.
  • Provides feedback for security related issues on demand as requested by peers and management;
  • Participates in internal and/or external security audits, as required;
  • Reviews requests from various application support groups, e.g., business, clinical, education and research, providing security recommendations, in a timely manner;
  • Maintains expert level knowledge and awareness of security and technological innovation and trends, demonstrating leadership to keep abreast of innovations and service developments;
  • Assist in drafting departmental and organization security policies, in collaboration with stakeholders;
  • Ensures the organizations technical safeguard policies and other security appliance policies align with Unity Health Toronto's policies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or recognized equivalent
  • Industry recognized Security Certification
  • At least 5 years demonstrated full-time work experience in IT security for large enterprises required, healthcare preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience working with various security platforms and tools including Firewalls, SIEM, SOC, EDR/MDR/XDR, email gateways etc.
  • Demonstrated experience with cloud security is an asset
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to adapt to change
  • Demonstrated strong analytical, organization, conceptual and decision making skills and the ability to work within a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to explain complex concepts in simple terms
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills/techniques to effectively convey information to clients in a manner that is easily understood
  • High level of initiative and self-direction
  • Demonstrated leadership and commitment to continuous professional learning
  • Project Management experience an asset
  • Consulting experience an asset
  • Ability to function within a fast paced 7/24 environment and participate in an on-call service outside of normal business hours
