Job Description:

As a Sr DevOps Engineer, you are part of a highly focused, self-managed Agile team who designs, develops and maintains a Continuous Build, Integration, Test and Monitoring pipeline to support the delivery of Sunlife DevOps solutions. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for problem solving, develop highly efficient automation and digital deployment pipelines, experiment with new technologies and development of their own hobby applications. Strong candidates should be very comfortable with coding in one or more programming languages [i.e.: Python, Java, Perl, etc.]. The candidate will have a keen interest in researching the latest DevOps technologies, have a desire and be a champion for continuous improvement through the learning of new things/new ideas, continually explore new perspectives, and embrace going beyond their comfort zone.

What will you do?

  • Automate using CI/CD & IaC: processes, workflows, configurations (AWS CLI, AWS SDK for Python Boto3, GoLang, Python and Bash scripting, Comfortable with Linux & command line).
  • Drive the adoption of DevOps best practices, tools, and processes across the team.
  • Provide guidance, knowledge, training and support for infrastructure automation, CI/CD, and cloud-based infrastructure management.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to implement and improve CI/CD pipelines.
  • Develop and maintain automated infrastructure and application provisioning and configuration management.
  • Must have experience in automation for CI/CD (Git/ BitBucket /Jenkins/ Artifactory / CloudFormation).
  • Excellent knowledge of writing AWS CloudFormation or Terraform Scripts.
  • Experience with automation/configuration management using Ansible.
  • Hands-on knowledge with Linux RedHat and/or Docker containerization.
  • Experience with scripting knowledge with Ansible playbooks, Python, Perl or Bash.
  • Sound knowledge of security/access control.
  • Experience with Linux development toolchain (i.e. rpm, yum).

What will you need to succeed?

  • University degree in Computer Science or related information technology degree/diploma.
  • 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience on mainstream relational databases, such as PostgreSQL, MSQL, SQL Server or Oracle.
  • 2 -3 years of demonstrable knowledge on Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift.
  • 3 - 5 years experience in enterprise-level software development and deployment (scalability, performance).
  • 3-5 years of direct experience in AWS, Azure or GCP.
  • Industry recognized certifications, such as AWS DevOps Engineer Professional, Terraform Authoring and Operations Professional, Certified Kubernetes Administrator etc.
  • Problem-solving skills and experience and have the experience to lead medium to complex initiatives. This includes programming skills verification during the hiring process/onboarding process.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to convey ideas and opinions to all levels of employees and management.
  • Take initiative to for development, be curious, persistent to find the right solutions to resolve complex problems and communicate ideas to team and management.

Reliability Status Clearance:

As a condition of the role, the successful candidate must be able to obtain a Government of Canada Reliability Status security clearance through Sun Life in advance of the start date.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
