Position Summary:

This is a critical leadership role within the Scientific & Regulatory Affairs team accountable for developing, implementing, and maintaining our regulatory systems and operations. This role will help develop and deliver key processes, KPIs and supporting documentation to drive a transformation in our regulatory ways of working in line with company goals. The incumbent will provide strategic leadership to ensure we have necessary regulatory processes documented and ensure compliance with McCain global standards. She or he will ensure our standards are fit for purpose and meet not only McCain standards but those of key customers and regulators around the globe. As a key member of the Global Scientific & Regulatory Affairs community, the incumbent will engage with other regulatory, quality, supply chain and legal leaders globally, influencing through strong leadership to deploy standards, assess performance and drive continuous improvement.

Manages McCain’s Regulatory Operations:

  • Co-develop and coordinate the implementation of standards that are fit for purpose and aligned to our Global Regulatory strategy to mitigate risk and assure compliance.
  • Support the definition and consolidation of Regulatory KPI’s to track the performance and progress of the function over-time.
  • Assures effective communication, integration and deployment of standards across regions by leveraging relationships with regional regulatory leads, supply chain, technical teams and regulators.
  • Lead efforts globally to identify areas of opportunity to enhance regulatory procedures and documentation, drive and sustain compliance to said procedures; lead training initiatives and drive the audit programs across the business against these procedures.
  • Assures performance is translated and recorded to monitor effectiveness of our Regulatory systems, monitors trends over time and thus drives continuous improvement in standards, audits and capabilities as needed.
  • Assesses key regulatory incidents and provides guidance and leadership to teams where systemic improvements against our policies and procedures are found to be required.
  • Responsible for driving and providing oversight for transformational projects in line with developing effective global regulatory procedures and performance.

Develop data systems and drive Regulatory analytics:

  • Co-develops KPIs and monitors progress of improvement plans, compliance and trends to assess impacts on overall Regulatory performance.
  • Leverages data and analytics to ensure that our policies and procedures are fit for purpose and driving high compliance measures.
  • Helps assure cross regional learnings and is a key custodian of our regulatory policies and procedures.

Drive step changes in compliance:

  • Provide leadership, in partnership with R&D, Quality and Legal, as required, to develop global and/or regional standards relating to key elements of compliance (i.e. allergens, label reviews, nutrition validation etc.) that assure products are developed in line with regulatory and customer needs.
  • Provide leadership to establish a process to evaluate ongoing product and process compliance. Provide a meaningful overview of performance and any action needed.
  • Strong leader who can influence without authority across matrixed teams both within Regulatory as well as cross-functionally.
  • Will undertake key projects and tasks as requested by Director and business.


Core Accountabilities/Outcomes:

  • Partners across the global regulatory network to build out our regulatory operations and procedures and assure they are fit for purpose against the Company’s needs, customer expectations and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborates with the development and review of the vision for the future of Regulatory and facilitates the change throughout the organization.
  • Develops departmental policies and procedures and ensures effective internal audits are in place to evaluate McCain performance in line with Company and customer needs. Provides leadership to ensure audits are scheduled, completed and resulting findings are communicated and actioned against clear root cause.
  • Drives full understanding of the Company’s regulatory standards across all relevant functions, their role in compliance and seeks continues improvement to evolve the system to meet changing needs of the business and external stakeholders.
  • Leadership to train, support and develop regional capabilities required to deliver against our regulatory strategies and priorities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Regulatory, Food Safety & Quality or related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience working within a large global food manufacturing organization, with at least 3 years in leadership roles within large, complex region or global.
  • Ability to lead and manage without authority, and influence key stakeholders, peers.
  • Previous experience with quality and/or regulatory management systems
  • The candidate will have a record of having led transformative initiatives, demonstrating an ability to influence the business to achieve rapid and measurable step-change in results.
  • Candidate must be hands-on, demonstrate a strong intellect and superior skills in communications, combined with a drive to deliver results.
  • Ability to build strong relationships and credibility internally and with key strategic external partners.
  • The incumbent must have the following traits in order to be successful: persistence, hypervigilance, flexibility, and will have to be a role model for change.
  • High planning capabilities, as she/he will be involved in numerous projects. The ability to engage others to lead or engage in key projects will be essential.
  • Quantitative and analytical advanced skills. Ability to extract meaningful insights from complex data sets and the ability to use data to drive decisions, strategies and priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills: is able to effectively and persuasively articulate positions to various audiences including senior executives in a clear, concise and compelling manner.
  • Courage to have difficult discussions with groups from all levels of the organization.
  • Resilient after business set-backs, and demonstrates persistence in tough circumstances
  • Strong team player highly motivated who can effectively interface with and present results to all levels of management and teams across the business.
  • Track record of driving high engagement in teams, and enrolling others in key business strategies.


Professional/Technical Accreditations:
Must have: Degree in Regulatory, Food Safety & Quality or other relevant technical discipline
Nice to have: MSc, PhD

Related Work Experience (Internal to the organization or external):

  • At least 7 years’ experience in regulatory/systems transformation roles, with at least 3 in significant leadership roles.
  • Has led transformation change across large region and preferable global.
  • Progressive roles, increasing in leadership complexity.
