Description

This position is intended to provide direct, supervision to staff in multiple program areas as assigned by the Director of Community Programs and/or Director of Quality, Risk and Education. In most cases, the assigned areas are those within which there are situations requiring increased staff support, higher resident/participant behavioral support demands and/or significant need for increase staff training and supervision. We are currently hiring a Temporary Full-Time Program Supervisor. This position reports to the Director - Community Programs. This is a Temporary full-time position that works 40 hours per week, scheduled to work mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends, rotating as applicable., flexible to meet program needs. The contract end date for this position is March 31, 2026.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Service/Program

  • Work with Director/Managers to provide leadership and job coaching for front-line staff
  • Ensure compliance with government and Salvation Army program requirements
  • Assist Managers in ensuring that each person in the programs has a current Individual Support Plan and Behavior Support Plan (where appropriate) that addresses his/her interests and needs
  • Participate in the intake and discharge of residents and participants as required

Staffing

  • In collaboration with the Director & Program Managers, initiate hiring, disciplinary and termination process in consultation with the Human Relations Team
  • Ensure the orientation, supervision and evaluation of staff as required by the agency's Policies and Procedures and/or Collective Agreement
  • Assist Director & Managers in ensuring orientation and supervision of students and volunteers.
  • Ensure completion, documentation and submission of required personnel forms (i.e., tests, medical reports, education and training certificates, etc.)
  • Ensure staff coverage in response to program needs as well as agency guidelines
  • Identify staff training needs and facilitate staff development
  • Adhere to the Collective Agreement
  • Ensure regular site Team Meetings are held

Organizational

  • Fulfill the Mission Statement of The Salvation Army and Broadview Village
  • Represent the agency as requested
  • Ensure adherence to the agency's policies and procedures
  • Identify, evaluate and plan for resources in response to changing program needs
  • Ensure property and maintenance needs are identified and responded to
  • Participate in the agency on call rotation schedule
  • Review Policy and Procedures and recommend revisions
  • Oversee staffing schedule and budget and complete payroll as required

Health and Safety

  • Ensure adherence to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations
  • Ensure Health & Safety requirements are maintained
  • Facilitate information sessions as arranged
  • Commend employee health and safety performance
  • Ensure the equipment, materials and protective devices are used as prescribed and are in good condition
  • Maintain Mandatory Certifications and Training as required

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a temporary full-time position based on 40 hours per week.
  • The performance of the job requires bending/ twisting/lifting, considerable walking, standing, writing, computer work, and light housekeeping.
  • Travel within GTA required.

The incumbent works under generally agreeable conditions, with the following exceptions:

  • Exposure to dirt, bodily fluids, bodily waste.
  • Dealing with individuals who display aggressive behaviors.
  • Handling garbage
  • Noise
  • Verbal abuse
  • Odors
  • Maybe required to work front line at times, alongside their team.
  • The incumbent's work environment is typically in a group home facility.

The incumbent may be exposed to risk of minor to moderate injury or illnesses due to the following:

  • Physical attacks by others (i.e., being attacked by a resident).
  • Exposure to toxic chemicals.
  • Sharp objects.
  • Exposure to infectious diseases.
  • Exposure to bodily fluids.
  • Other dangerous situations.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree related to human services or equivalent combination of a diploma and experience.
  • Crisis prevention and intervention certificate and behavioral management skills.
  • Valid Standard First Aid/CPR certificate.
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention.
  • WHMIS Training.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Working knowledge of applicable legislation for developmental services.
  • Supervisory experience preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in individual support planning and Behavior Support Plans.
  • Experience exploring program opportunities.
  • Experience in Healthcare and Medication administration.

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook and internet research.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
