Please note: this position will be home based initially as there is currently no physical office to report to. Candidates must live in the GTA and will commute all over the GTA to complete work. A company truck will be provided for work purposes.

Position Overview:

The Traffic Control Team Lead's main objective is to coordinate, supervise, and administer all activities of a Traffic Control Crew to ensure safe and proper lane closures in order to meet client needs. They are responsible for overseeing and participating in the set up of traffic control zones, adjusting work zone equipment, and responding to emergencies and hazards. Their role with the company is vital to ensure regulations and safety standards are upheld in the interest of protecting our client's workers, the public, and our employees.

What you will be responsible for:

  • Provide guidance and supervision to crew members to ensure lane closures are properly and safely built while responding to potential employee challenges
  • Deliver ongoing training to current and new crew members to ensure continued compliance and efficiency within the department regarding processes, procedures, and all requirements outlined in Book 7
  • Take accountability for decision making and recommendations on best courses of action and solutions when responding to any challenges
  • Provide strategic coordination of all lane closure activities in order to meet client needs
  • Set up traffic control zones and adjust work zone equipment
  • Participate in the setup and tear down of channeling devices, delineation of equipment, and traffic control procedures, along with other related duties as required
  • Effectively conduct traffic control at worksites within the abilities and experience of the training provided to protect the client's workers, the public, and our employees
  • Ensure traffic control capabilities meet or exceed requirements for quality, delivery, safety, and responsiveness
  • Provide traffic control directions and signals clearly and precisely so that motorists understand their meaning
  • Report all accidents, incidents, and near misses immediately to the OHS Advisor and complete all required reports and forms
  • Participate in accident/incident investigations as necessary to ensure compliance with investigative policies and procedures
  • Complete forms and reports in a timely manner as required for each job and due diligence to ensure compliance with acts, regulations, standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures
  • Able to effectively communicate and de-escalate public frustrations
  • Respond to emergencies and hazards

What we need from you:

  • Minimum 3 years direct experience in the Traffic Control industry, including doing lane closures on multiple lanes on the highway (Required)
  • Minimum 1 year leadership experience (Required)
  • Valid G class driver's license, your own vehicle, and a clean driver's abstract (Required)
  • Will work Monday - Friday between 8am - 5pm with the understanding there will be work outside of these hours when needed (Required)
  • Have strong verbal and written English communication skills (Required)
  • Vision and hearing abilities that will allow to perform all work requirements safely (Required)
  • Physical ability to repeatedly lift up to 60 lbs. (Required)
  • You will also be required to provide your own CSA Grade 1 (green label) work boots with a minimum 6 inch cuff and electrical shock resistance (white label with omega symbol)
  • Have a valid DZ driver's license (Asset/Not Required)
  • Communicate effectively - Good communication skills to be able to give motorists & pedestrians directions, explain hazards, and answer questions
  • Grace under pressure - Able to calmly troubleshoot issues and collaborate with a diverse group of people
  • Tech savvy - Must have a smartphone that you're comfortable using for work purposes with ability to learn new systems/apps
  • Collaborates - Comfortable working in a team environment
