BIOVECTRA Inc. is a leading bio-science business in Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia, focused on contract manufacturing and product development of active pharmaceutical ingredients, pharmaceutical intermediates, and bioreagents.

BIOVECTRA Inc. has an opening for a Process Development Scientist, Biologics. This is a permanent, full-time position located in Charlottetown, PEI.

The candidate will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing process development operations in non-GMP and/or GMP environments.
  • Overseeing process development operations in non-GMP and/or GMP environments.
  • Developing and apply advanced and new scientific concepts to advance biologicals process development activities.
  • Applying literature searches to create innovative experimental approaches and to optimize processes and communicate information to the PD team.
  • Responsible for the design, planning, and execution of laboratory experiments.
  • Defining experimental protocols and writing work instructions and SOPs.
  • Review and approve documentation for each study or experiment ensuring data integrity/quality, thus being responsible for documentation quality.
  • Oversee and execute complex experiments in non-GMP and/or GMP environments.
  • Expertly operate and troubleshoot equipment and supervising process development work, such as microbial fermentation, and/or drug substance purification and/or formulation in support of process familiarization, process improvement and raw material evaluation.
  • Extrapolating data to develop theories and define process improvement strategies.
  • Responsible for the writing of scientific progress reports and conducting internal presentations.
  • Transferring technology and processes to technical staff, as an active member of the project team working effectively with analytical team, MST, TechOps, and Quality Projects groups.
  • Supporting existing manufacturing processes, making modifications to the procedures/products as needed, and informing internal stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition from one scientific expertise to another.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with professionals and technical specialists in related disciplines and scientists on development projects.
  • Providing in-depth training on equipment and procedures based on previous experience.
  • Leading continuous improvement initiatives for laboratory operations.
  • Complying with approved safety practices for the laboratory facility.
  • Operating manual, electronic, pneumatic, or computerized laboratory process equipment.

The successful candidate for this position should have:

  • College diploma plus Biotechnology.
  • College diploma plus 5 years of relevant experience is preferred.
  • Undergraduate degree plus 4 years of relevant experience is preferred.
  • Master's degree plus 2 years of relevant experience is preferred.
  • PhD degree is preferred.
  • Previous experience in industrial biologics fermentation and/or downstream processing process development is preferred.
  • Experience in pDNA/mRNA process development work is an asset.
  • Experience in cGMP environment is an asset.
  • Ability to switch easily from project to project, as well as conduct various tasks.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and presentation skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to communicate and interact with professionals and technical specialists in related disciplines.
  • Heavy lifting occasionally required (up to 20kg).
  • Ability and willingness to work with potent compounds and following all safety precautions and protocols.

Starting annual salary is based on skills and qualifications: $60,000
