To machine components for PT6A, JT15D and PW100 engines. To machine fixtures and tooling for the Machine Shop and other departments as required.

Position Accountabilities

  • Machining of previously manufactured parts that are in process of repair to restore specific features to acceptable limits with respect to size and position relative to existing part features as defined in the repair process documentation.
  • Manufacturing of tooling, jigs and fixtures in accordance with detailed manufacturing drawings.
  • Manufacture of small components (sleeves, etc.) in accordance with detail parts drawings.
  • Machinists are required to perform regular cleaning and maintenance of the machines in their care and to ensure that the work areas are maintained clean and free of chips and machine cuttings as far as is practical.
  • Model behaviors consistent with good quality, health and safety, and environmental management practices.

Qualifications

  • All qualified Machinists must have obtained either a provincial or inter-provincial license as a machinist or a tool & die maker and be able to work at that level.
  • All Machinists working in the machine shop require an understanding of geometric tolerance and must be able to read and understand a CMM report.
  • All machinists must be proficient in the use of standard measuring instruments.
  • All personnel must be able to understand and use all applicable documentation with regard to the machine shop.
  • Entry level qualifications for an Apprentice Machinist should be block 1 qualified as a machinist from either Holland College or some other institution that is qualified to train apprentices. (Toolmaker apprentices also qualify but there is no apprenticeship for this trade on P.E.I.) Apprentices must continue to complete and pass each block until they pass the qualifying exams. Total 8000hrs + passing of Block 4 exams required to become a licensed machinist.

Working Environment

  • An individual in this capacity must be aware of that the position will involve:
  • Must be willing to walk to various areas throughout the facility throughout the day.
  • Some heavy lifting may be required.
  • Safety shoes and safety glasses (PPE) are mandatory.
  • Masks and respirators will be used where applicable.
  • There is a shift system in operation and overtime may be required to meet production demands.
