At SMS Equipment, the Service Supervisor is responsible for the effective management of the activities of the Service Department. This position is located in Baie-Comeau.

The schedule for this position is 5x2 or 7x7.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to :

  • Supervise a team of shop mechanics and some road technicians.
  • Ensure a maximum presence in the shop to observe, initiate and collaborate in the improvement and follow-up of work in progress.
  • Meet with his team at the start of each shift to inform them of the progress of operations and ensure that relevant information is passed on to the team.
  • Lead, mobilize, develop and evaluate staff.
  • Solve problems related to staff efficiency.
  • Take calls to collect information in order to establish a complete work order and diagnosis.
  • Follow-up and verify work orders within required deadlines.
  • Inform customers about work to be carried out, as well as future work, and provide cost estimates.
  • Ensure compliance with sales contract clauses.
  • Check shop employees' hours and monitor work profitability.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and cleanliness of the workshop.
  • Ensure day-to-day management of personnel (absenteeism, lateness and application of regulations) and application of the collective agreement.
  • Ensure that health and safety management practices are an integral part of operations management, and ensure adequate follow-up of work-related accidents.
  • Perform any other related duties as requested by management.

Qualifications :

  • College technical and/or vocational diploma in mechanics or equivalent experience;
  • Experience in personnel management/supervision;
  • Experience in a unionized environment an asset;
  • 3 to 5 years' relevant experience in a similar position, including personnel management.

Other requirements include :

  • Good organizational, planning and priority management skills.

  • Ability to analyze and synthesize, initiative, sense of responsibility, teamwork, meticulousness and precision;

  • Very good leadership skills, positive attitude, good listening skills, good judgment;

  • Interpersonal and results-oriented;

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage several files at once

  • Bilingualism (French and English);
