Your future role on our team

We’re looking for a leader to serve as Department Manager, Civil Engineering – Infrastructure, mostly based in our Montréal office. This person will help BBA achieve its strategic objectives. In this role, you’ll oversee the team’s human, financial and material resources, while managing activities to deliver on business plans and operational goals.

More specifically, you’ll be required to:

  • lead and inspire a team of 15 seasoned professionals.
  • uphold a high level of technical quality in work performed.
  • establish, lead and participate in business development strategies in collaboration with the Montréal Operations Director, BBA’s leadership team and other experts from various disciplines to drive the expansion of the Civil Engineering – Infrastructure team.
  • represent BBA at civil engineering conferences and trade association events.
  • lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers, designers and project support staff who are qualified in preparing proposals, studies, reports, plans, designs, cost
  • estimates and technical specifications.
  • actively contribute to the firm’s various client projects as a senior engineer, mentor, coach, project manager or study manager, etc.
  • inspire your team by taking an active role in operations and projects.
  • work with other experienced team members from BBA’s technical groups to share information, identify market trends and build an international network of resources to support projects, where required.
  • play a key role in implementing strategies and initiatives related to management and strategic direction as a core member of the Civil Engineering – Infrastructure leadership team.
  • identify and support ongoing training and learning opportunities for members of the Civil Engineering – Infrastructure team.
  • make sure the team meets its responsibilities and obligations under BBA health, safety and environment standards.
  • identify resource gaps within the Civil Engineering – Infrastructure team and help assess and recruit these resources.

Summary of certifications and job requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (a master’s would be an asset)
  • Certified member of an engineering association and a designation issued by a provincial or territorial engineering association in Canada or the ability to obtain such a designation within the next six months
  • Advanced technical expertise in civil engineering (storm water management, roads and access, underground infrastructure, etc.) in the heavy industry sector
  • At least 10 years of relevant professional experience in consulting engineering or project management, including team management
  • Experience engaging and managing teams
  • Excellent soft skills and collaborative management skills
  • Established network of contacts in the civil engineering, mining and metals sectors
  • Interest and skills in business development
  • Bilingual (English and French)
  • Available to travel occasionally to domestic or international destinations
  • Asset: experience preparing proposals, including budgets, estimates and schedules
