Canadian National Railway Company (CN) is looking for a highly motivated person to fulfill a full-time (40h/week) Intern, Data Management position in Montreal, QC and Brampton, ON from May - August 2025.
Job Summary
The Intern, Data Management is responsible in ensuring the accuracy, accessibility, and usability of our organization's data. The role provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in data collection, organization, and analysis, while working closely with a dynamic team of professionals. The position requires meticulous attention to detail and enthusiasm for data-driven insights which are key assets in contributing to the data management efforts. The incumbent works within the Data Services group across multiple areas such as Data Governance, Platforms, Development, Analytics and Science.
Major Responsibilities
· Analyze data with data profiling and visualization tools in order to identify issues and recommend improvement actions
· Design and build data pipelines and data quality rules to move and validate the data, as well as dashboards and metrics to monitor it
· Collaborate with business and technology partners to define, develop, and document detailed business, data, and governance requirements
· Participate as a member of the agile team focused on developing new capabilities, including daily scrums and sprint planning
· Collaborate with Project Managers, Data Developers, Product Owners, data Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Integration Managers and other stakeholders to deliver an end-to-end capability from concept to production deployment
Requirements
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to deliver message and ideas effectively to diverse audiences such as business, development, quality engineers and management stakeholders
· An interest for constantly exploring emerging technology such as Databricks, Tableau, Informatica, Cloud Platforms
· Familiarity with Jira or Azure DevOps and Confluence
· Proficient with Excel, Visio, Structure Query Language (SQL), some reporting and analytical tools
· Understands Data Modelling concepts
· Able to handle multiple priorities and work independently, as well as part of a team
· Experience with technology project delivery and agile delivery methodology*
· Prior experience with creating visualization such as Process and Data Flows
· Ability to produce data mapping between Source and Target Systems
· Ability to capture user stories and use cases
Education
· Currently enrolled in a relevant technology program such as Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology Management, Mathematics or Data Analytics
*Any experience/education/skills/knowledge for these above would be considered as an asset
