Canadian National Railway Company (CN) is looking for a highly motivated person to fulfill a full-time (40h/week) Intern, Facilities Maintenance Engineering position in Montreal, QC from May - Aug 2025.

Job Summary

The Intern, Facilities Maintenance Engineering is responsible for leveraging Internet of Things (IoT) concepts to expand existing monitoring capabilities of the systems testing new hardware and software technologies. The position analyzes abnormalities by transforming captured data into insights. The role is part of the Monitoring and Business Intelligence Team which is responsible for the remote monitoring of critical assets at CN facilities across North America (e.g. use of cutting-edge technologies to monitor energy and demand, electrical power systems reliability, equipment performance).

Major Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis of electrical Power Quality (PQ) alarms generated daily
  • Assist Engineers with energy analysis and modeling
  • Assist the facilities management staff with the monitoring system
  • Observe and identify key abnormities in asset health
  • Help Engineers perform measurements and verifications on energy conservation projects
  • Prepare technical documents such as equipment specifications, network diagrams and Standards
  • Carry out research on data analysis to help improve asset health
  • Help expand monitoring capabilities by leveraging industry standard IoT technologies
  • Develop new SCADA pages as requested by the Facilities team
  • Leverage tools (Power BI, Tableau) to develop dynamic reports and presentations

Requirements

  • Experience in power systems, such as basic electrical theory, interpreting electrical single line and wiring drawings, Power Factor calculations
  • Understanding of Transmission Control Protocol and Internet Protocol (TCP, IP) networking concepts
  • Experience in a power systems role*
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office: Excel, specifically Data Analysis package
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Preference will be given to those candidates who wish to pursue a career in power systems, clean energy or controls*

Education

  • Working towards a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering with a focus on Mechatronics

*Any experience/education/skills/knowledge for these above would be considered as an asset
