Job Summary:

This role will be responsible for execution of the vision, strategy and focus of advisory services serving governments and key industry sectors, as well as ensuring alignment with organizational priorities through close collaboration with internal partners. They will be accountable for identifying opportunities across the organization, including standards development, research, education and advocacy. Examples of advisory services include but are not limited to the following:

  • Conducting workshop agreements to explore emerging or challenging issues
  • Advising organizations on the utilization of standards to achieve public policy or business goals
  • As above related to our educational offerings
  • Advising and educating on emerging trends and technologies

The above will be accomplished by taking various actions, including the following:

  • Determining the value proposition for CSA Standards related to advisory services for government and industry
  • Registering CSA Standards as a supplier on government procurement sites, and monitoring opportunities as they arise
  • Providing guidance to Standards personnel to support their positioning of advisory services in client proposals
  • Working directly with clients, or indirectly through teams such as Standards Development and Government Relations, to continually reinforce our value proposition with governments and industry at all levels (e.g. through speaking engagements at conferences and symposia)

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Based on sound knowledge of the offerings of CSA Standards, and the needs of governments and industry, will identify, cultivate, and pursue new advisory services business opportunities
  • Register CSA Standards as a supplier on government procurement sites, and monitor opportunities as they arise
  • Develop annual business plan for advisory services, including the execution plans and budgets
  • Conduct literature-based research (e.g. government documents, strategic industry plans)
  • Attend government- and industry-related conferences and symposiums
  • Recruit, lead, coach and motivate a high-performance team
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with external clients in positioning CSA's advisory services, either directly or in cooperation with internal teams such as Government Relations, Research & Education, Public Policy, etc.
  • Work directly with clients, or indirectly through teams such as Standards Development and Government Relations, to continually reinforce our value proposition with governments and industry at all levels (e.g. through speaking engagements at conferences and symposia)
  • Meet regularly with internal teams with knowledge of government and industry issues and needs
  • Provide guidance to Standards personnel to support their positioning of advisory services in client proposals
  • Meet with government and industry officials, either one-on-one or in conference settings
  • Oversee the management of all advisory services activities including the annual strategic and business plans, budgets, revenue, cost requirements, timelines, headcount, etc.
  • Achieve the revenue objectives related to driving the delivery of CSA advisory services within government and industry as approved for each fiscal year
  • Demonstrate ability to conduct research and analysis, and from that, creates and executes complex business strategies
  • Identify development opportunities related to advisory services for government and industry
  • Provide guidance and leadership outside of direct reporting relationships to motivate and focus staff to achieve strategic business objectives, and as required builds consensus, obtains buy-in, and presents recommendations in oral and written formats
  • Strong initiative and ability to develop new customer contacts and relationships

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree, or related work experience, in business, government, not for profit, or consulting
  • Minimum 10-15 years' experience with demonstrated results in the promotion and delivery of services, business development, relationship management, strategic planning, project management, and budgeting
  • 5 years of leadership experience in supervising or managing staff - includes managing workloads, setting priorities, work coverage, discipline
  • Demonstrated knowledge of government public policy objectives at the federal, provincial and municipal levels, and key objectives of major industry sectors
  • Working knowledge of industry and government funding programs
  • Expertise in preparation of clear, effective and professionally written communications, presentations, applications and proposals to senior officials and business leaders
  • Demonstrated ability to influence government decisions and secure funding.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, coordination, and time management skills
  • Strong facilitation/negotiation and stakeholder engagement capabilities
  • Ability to self-manage, influence others without direct reporting authority, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative, discretion and diplomacy
  • Professional and interpersonal skills to work effectively with a wide range of individuals and stakeholders
  • Ability to identify new initiatives for the success of the organization
  • Verbal and written fluency in English and French would be an asset
  • Knowledge of the standardization systems in Canada and the U.S., and the offerings of standards development organizations (e.g. standards, education programs, research, etc.) would be an asset
