About this opportunity:

Upstream Thermal Operations currently has an opportunity for a Plant Operator for our Thermal Spruce Lake organization. The Facility Operation consists of water treating, high pressure steam generation, sour oil wells and oil treating facilities. Reporting to the Operations Coordinator, the Plant Operator is responsible for ensuring it is run in a safe, efficient manner while maintaining the necessary production requirements.

Work Environment:

  • Our facilities are in rural Saskatchewan, approximately 100 km from Lloydminster, SK

  • Shared work-purpose-only vehicles are provided for employees

  • Work schedule consists of 12-hour shifts, rotating between days/nights, including weekends and statutory holidays (7 on/7 off)

  • You will be required to work in various conditions, including working at heights, in confined spaces, with noise, and in extreme weather conditions

What you'll do:

  • Operate the facility in a safe and effective manner while working collaboratively as part of the operating team

  • Maintain and troubleshoot area-specific equipment to optimize performance and meet production targets as per company guidelines

  • Perform condition monitoring including sampling and testing per area responsibilities and complete area operations records (e.g. volume balances, log sheets, work permits, and required reports)

  • Support operations-performed maintenance activities aligned with the site's operating philosophy

  • Support on-site maintenance contractors by communicating company requirements, policies, and procedures while leading by example

  • Provide assistance, mentorship, on-the-job training, and assessments to new employees as required

  • Align with all HS&E requirements in the performance of responsibilities

  • Align with High Reliability Organization standards and expectations

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • Minimum 3rd Class Power Engineering certificate required, with preference for candidates progressing towards 2nd Class certification

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in operating steam generating equipment, control panels, oil processing, and/or well equipment and associated systems

  • Experience in the oil and gas industry, with equipment isolation, safe work permitting, and hazard analysis

  • Proficiency with computers is required, with knowledge of SAP and field data capture systems being considered an asset

  • Ability to work in a team environment with a solid understanding of safety and regulatory standards and procedures

  • Mechanical aptitude, strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and self-motivate

  • Willingness to accept increased operational responsibility with strong troubleshooting skills

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
