About this opportunity:

The Plant Operator, working at our Bolney Thermal facility, will be a highly motivated individual who will be passionate about meeting facility KPIs, providing mentorship to all levels of staff as well as building and maintaining both internal and external relationships. This position will be responsible for meeting all facility targets such as Safety, Production, Costs and Reliability. The individual will also be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of their facility ensuring it meets all the standards and expectations of Cenovus's Organizational culture.

Work Environment:

  • This position is located in Lloydminster and requires the successful candidate to live in the area

  • This is a full-time employee position working a shift rotation

What you'll do:

  • Operate the facility in a safe and effective manner, while working collaboratively as part of the operating team

  • Maintain and troubleshoot all area-specific equipment to optimize performance to meet production targets as per Company's guidelines

  • Perform condition monitoring including sampling and testing per area responsibilities. Complete area operations records. (e.g. volume balances, log sheets, work permits and required reports)

  • Support operations performed maintenance activities aligned to the site's operating philosophy. Support on-site maintenance contractors by communicating Company's requirements, policies and procedures, while leading by example

  • Provide assistance, mentoring, on-the-job training, and assessments to new employees as required

  • Align with all HS&E requirements in the performance of this Position's responsibilities

  • Align with High Reliability Organization standards and expectations

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally eligible to work in Canada

  • Holds a 3rd Class Power Engineering Certificate of Competency with knowledge in Thermal Production Operations and supervision in on-stream production environments

  • Demonstrated experience in safe work permitting, hazard analysis, and equipment isolation for maintenance, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards

  • Skilled in the operation of processes and control systems, including PLC (Programmable Logic Control) and DCS (Distributed Control System), to ensure smooth and efficient operations

  • Minimum 4-5 years of experience in the Oil and Gas Industry, including Petrochemical Refineries, Upgraders, or SAGD, with potential consideration for experience in related industries like Pulp and Paper or Power Generation

  • Proven leadership and supervisory skills, with hands-on experience in managing direct reports and guiding teams in complex operational environments

  • Assets include a Power Engineering or Technical School (2-year) diploma, First or Second Class Power Engineering Certificate of Competency, experience with SAGD process, Steam and Production Well operation, Gas Process Operations (GPO)/Production Field Operations (PFO) levels I-IV, and a strong understanding of safety and regulatory standards and procedures

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate
