We are seeking a dedicated Backcasting and Optimization Engineer to enhance our planning processes and drive continuous improvement initiatives. This position is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the optimization model (Asset LP) through process monitoring and calibration for model tuning, while also playing a lead role in model enhancements. The successful candidate will be engaging, possessing excellent written and verbal communication skills, and demonstrating adaptability to changing priorities. Strong problem-solving capabilities are crucial, along with the ability to be a self-starter who can work independently without the need for hands-on management.

This position is located in Lloydminster and requires the successful candidate to live in the area
What you'll do:
Proficiently and accurately capture refinery operating data, crude and product cost and volume data, and refinery events, with the ability to analyze and input this data into the backcasting process. Achieving these goals effectively requires strong and engagement from all participants
Given the diverse range of partners involved in the backcasting process, effective communication will be crucial to ensure alignment and facilitate the successful development and presentation of relevant materials
Key partners include LU/LR economic department, site operations, the Canadian and Superior Refining Supply team, crude planning, and product planning
Enhance and update the Asset LP by integrating process data from unit balances, backcasting, monitoring tools, various stream data, and other technical plant information. The successful candidate will take full ownership of the local asset model, ensuring its accuracy and ongoing relevance
Who you are:
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
Legally authorized to work in Canada
8+years of experience in a refining, downstream supply, or production business environment
Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) or Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) required. (Chemical Engineering Discipline) preferred
Experience with planning tools such as ASPEN PIMS or AVEVA Spiral is preferred but not required
A strong understanding of refinery unit processes is beneficial. Understanding refinery mass balance also a strong plus
Strong analytical thinking skills, problem solving skills and a drive to continually learn and improve
Solid foundational leadership skills in collaboration and communication

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.
For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
