Reporting to the Senior Operations Supervisor, the Operations Shift Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that the Gibson Energy standards, programs, processes are adhered to, and safely execute the day-to-day operation of the Moose Jaw facility. The Operations Shift Supervisor provides effective leadership, mentoring and training to operations staff and contractors, troubleshoots and supports Gibson Energy's commitment to operations excellence.

Responsible to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the Moose Jaw facility which includes the Crude Unit, Utilities, Rail Car Loading, and Tank Farms/Logistics. This includes the appropriate staffing and scheduling of the unionized workforce at the Moose Jaw Refinery. In addition, this role encompasses daily operational coordination, and operational issue resolution in compliance with the CBA, all acts, and regulations. The role ensures safe execution and coordination of operational activities with maintenance personnel and logistical areas across the organization while adhering to Gibson standards and site-specific requirements.

This role will support the functional performance of the Moose Jaw facility operations organization and is a key leadership function which will promote the values of Gibson in delivery of operational priorities for the facility. The Operations Shift Supervisor actively seeks opportunities for improvement, promotes inclusiveness and collaboration throughout the organization while engaging with operations, following best practices, and optimization with the view of continuous improvement.

What You'll Be Doing
General

  • Maintains continuous supervision of the plant/facility in accordance with the regulatory requirements under the direction of the Operations Manager.
  • Collaborates with the Operations Manager, Business Units, and Operations staff to ensure safe, efficient and compliant operation of the Moose Jaw Facility while seeking opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Takes corrective action to ensure operational parameters are within safe limits.
  • Work with employees in a collaborative environment, Proposes disciplinary action as required for employees who are failing to adhere to company policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Holds operations personnel accountable to meeting all directives, assignments and operational tasks associated with their positions.
  • Supports the roll out and implementation of an OMS (Operations Management System).
  • Takes on the role of lead during incident response, taking on the role of initial Incident Commander during an incident or emergency situations.
  • Can identify, document and lead investigations as required.
  • This role identifies and documents operational risks within the facility and incorporates solutions into the planning and operation of the plant. The team lead is skilled at troubleshooting and collaborates with the business to resolve technical issues or challenges.
  • Demonstrates a personal commitment and proactive approach to Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) through participation in all applicable programs and ensures safe operation of the Moose Jaw Refinery in compliance with all Company policies and procedures.
  • Assists with integration and operationalization of projects in the refinery. Ensures training and procedures are developed for any new processes or expansions at the refinery.
  • Performs regular audits of both personal and process safety administrative process to ensure operations compliance.
  • Assists and is responsible for life cycle and regular reviews of site SSOP's ensuring validity of documentation.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Maintenance

  • Works in close collaboration with the Senior Maintenance Supervisor in the planning and execution of routine work planning, scheduling including turnarounds as required for the regulatory compliance and asset integrity.
  • Acts as the primary contact for operations/maintenance coordination of maintenance activity, ensures safe execution of preparing equipment for maintenance following the safe work permit process and hazardous energy isolation standards.
  • Ensures operations has properly isolated and prepared equipment for servicing.
  • Identifies areas for coordination improvements to the maintenance execution process.
  • Actively adheres to and participates in the MOC process.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Work with the company Operations Manager and Environmental & Regulatory Specialist to ensure all regulatory monitoring, including groundwater, soil, and air, is documented and reported in a timely manner and meet all regulatory approval, provincial, and federal requirements.
  • Ensure there are documented processes and procedures for all ground disturbance activities.
  • Support ground disturbance requirements including the following activities:
    • Participate in and promote the Company's strong safety culture by supporting EH&S related meetings, near miss, incident and compliance reporting and investigations are completed.

Project Delivery

  • Participate in project HAZOPs and provide operational input.
  • Provides operational support and input during Initiation and Development phases of growth projects.
  • Support the development of project procedure requirements and that training has been documented for all employees to the new equipment and processes.
  • Assumes operations responsibility of assets at turnover on behalf of facility management.
  • Act as liaise for operations on project teams and providing operational input and leading operations activities in alliance with the CSU team and the Senior Operations Supervisor.
  • Ensure project status and updates are communicated with operations and facility management.

What You'll Bring

  • Minimum 4th Class Power Engineering with preference given to 3rd or 2nd Class Power Engineer.
  • Technologist Diploma, Power Engineering Certification or valid trade ticket is preferred.
  • 5+ years of operations or maintenance experience in support of crude oil processing (upstream and downstream) or terminal and pipeline facilities including utilities and steam generation is preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Minimum 2 to 3 years leadership experience preferably in a unionized environment with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • CMDS validator training experience is an asset.
  • Exposure to truck and rail transportation and TDG is an asset.
  • Proficient in the use of PC's and Microsoft Windows software, including Word and Excel.
  • Work collaboratively and effectively with functional areas and other operating areas.
  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communications skills that are coupled with excellent listening skills resulting in clear and complete transfer of information while demonstrating integrity by skillfully managing emotions and behaviors to gain trust, credibility, and respect.

Working Conditions

  • Field based position with minimal travel to other operating sites or Calgary head office.
  • This is a rotating shift position requiring days and nights, 12-hour shifts.
  • Work involves hands-on support of active operations and maintenance in an outdoor environment (as applicable).
  • Must be available to support outside normal work hours and on-call emergency response.
