Position Summary
The City of Regina is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Water and Sewer Technologist to join our team. This role involves performing advanced technical work in database management, asset management, and engineering operations for water and sewer infrastructure. The successful candidate will provide expertise in planning, design, construction, operation, and preservation of water and sewer systems while ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop, manage, and coordinate databases related to water and sewer infrastructure.
- Provide technical analysis for water and sewer systems, including planning, design, construction, and maintenance.
- Review engineering drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with City standards.
- Supervise and direct staff, consultants, and contractors, ensuring projects meet quality and safety requirements.
- Operate and interpret results from specialized software, including water, sewer, and drainage modeling tools (Examples include: SCADA, WaterCad, AutoCad, Crystal Reports, Asset / Maintenance Management software, SPL/WAM, Watertrax)
- Develop and review standards, processes, and manuals for water and sewer operations and maintenance.
- Manage data collection programs and produce technical reports with actionable recommendations.
- Conduct research and evaluate new technologies and industry best practices to improve efficiency and performance.
- Manage budgets, contracts, and projects while maintaining a high level of service delivery.
- Respond to public inquiries, concerns, and complaints with tact and professionalism.
- Ensure adherence to Occupational Health and Safety regulations at all work sites.
Key Qualifications
- The knowledge, abilities and skills are obtained through completion of a two year diploma in Civil, Environmental or Water Resources Engineering Technology and a minimum of two years experience in related water and/or sewer engineering/technical field.
- Minimum of two years' experience in water and/or sewer engineering or a related technical field.
- Registration or eligibility for registration with the Saskatchewan Applied Science Technologists and Technicians (SASTT).
- Intermediate proficiency in GIS, CAD (e.g., ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Civil 3D), and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong knowledge of water and sewer systems, including design, construction, and maintenance practices.
- Ability to manage complex databases and interpret technical data.
- Proven skills in project management, budgeting, and contract administration.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle (travel allowance provided).
Working/Other Conditions
- Work may involve physical tasks in various field environments and inclement weather.
- Flexibility to work on-call, overtime, shifts, and irregular hours as needed.
