The Manager, Process Engineering provides leadership to the process engineering team, ensuring timely and proficient technical support to the Toledo Refinery and its business goals. The role will lead and develop the process engineering team, while influencing across the refinery to ensure technical foundations and continuous improvements.

What you'll do:

  • Resource, lead, develop and mentor the Process Engineering team to ensure a highly capable process engineering team exhibiting the Cenovus values and behaviors

  • Ensure the Process Engineering team is staffed efficiently, applying our co-op program and experienced hire recruiting options as appropriate

  • Ensure each Process Engineer has a development plan incorporating all elements of 70/20/10 model. Provide coaching and mentoring to the process engineers helping them to identify areas for improvement and recognize areas of strength

  • Guarantee process engineers engage with Operations team at appropriate levels, within the Asset team structure and in day-to-day shift team support

Ensure the following activities are fulfilled by Process Engineering team:

  • Catalyst performance monitoring and management

  • Understand and manage unit health monitoring and material balances

  • Ensure regular plant tests are conducted to maintain accurate models and identify unit performance deterioration

  • Ensure equipment and process are monitored and trouble-shooting expertise is provided to Operations

  • Communicate threats proactively and timely and work with other Refinery teams as appropriate to resolve

  • Ensure that the technical input required for accurate target setting is available on a timely basis

  • Ensure participation in the networks including active participation in Communities of Practice

  • Participate in incident investigations, MOCs, HAZOPs

  • Support TAR planning, prioritization, and execution through allocation of resources and defining the scope of units

  • Ensure cover is provided to support current operations

  • Maintain current knowledge of technology specialties

  • Incorporate standard methodologies and industry advancements at Toledo

  • Support the innovation process by identifying and initiating growth and innovation projects

  • Support the development and prioritization of the project list for each process unit

  • Provide technical input into Regulatory and Sustaining Projects ensuring objectives are met efficiently and effectively

  • Sign-off on project assumptions regarding existing unit performance, design scenarios and basis, and upset conditions

  • Participate as a member of the plant emergency operating procedures (E.O.P.) team

  • Understand and maintain compliance with Process Safety policies and procedures in all Process Engineering work

Who you are:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field required

  • Bachelor's of Science in Chemical Engineering or equivalent experience strongly preferred

  • Minimum 10 years' experience as a member of technical engineering teams supporting a refinery or chemical plant in a process environment required

  • Experience mentoring and leading technical or project teams preferred
