Cenovus is looking for a Senior Business Asset Development Engineer (Process Optimization Engineer) located at any of our US Cenovus locations. Reporting to the VP of Manufacturing Performance Improvement, this individual contributor will have a high level of interaction and collaboration with Commercial and Process Engineering teams at the manufacturing assets and Optimization and Business Development teams at the corporate office.

What you'll do:

  • Works with key partners from refineries, marketing, value chain optimization, business development, and projects to advise on growth opportunities as they progress through the stage gate process.
  • Leads the project development phase when the high technical complexity of the opportunities requires refining technical SME leadership.
  • Participates in facility low/no cap working teams to help progress high value, low capital opportunities. Provides process engineering expertise to accelerate change.
  • Develop and screen a robust list of energy efficiency and GHG reduction opportunities for downstream assets consistent with Cenovus corporate objectives and local regulatory environments.
  • Conducts workshops with key asset collaborators and works with third-party engineering and development consultants to build the basis for the gaps and opportunities assessment, due to the high complexity nature of the issues and complex problem solving required.
  • Maps asset optimization opportunities identifying yield and throughput performance improvement gaps and opportunities across all sites.
  • Validates feasibility and technical/commercial assumptions with key asset partners, engineers, supervisors, and operators.
  • Facilitates external support from technology subject matter experts when necessary to provide recommendations on growth concepts, both capital projects and low/no cap opportunities.
  • Supports economic modeling for project evaluations and screening.
  • Ranks opportunities based on return vs. effort (capital and implementation/complexity) to support strategic plans and inform resource prioritization.
  • Works with Corporate Business Development and Optimization to validate assumptions and economics for growth projects.

Who you are:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering
  • 5+ years of career experience in process engineering, optimization, and/ or project engineering combined.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree and/or advanced professional degree
  • 8+ years of career experience in Refining process engineering, optimization, and/ or project engineering combined.
  • 5+ years of career experience in optimization, production planning, commercial, or related fields.
