About this opportunity:

Cenovus is seeking a Senior Performance Engineer at our Toledo refinery. This individual is a key role standing at the interface between the refinery Optimization & Performance team in the Commercial department and Finance. The role is responsible for driving continuous gross margin improvement with focus on measuring the refinery's performance and facilitating effective performance conversations between partners. This role helps drive commercial success for the refinery.

What you'll do:

  • Provide in-depth analysis of refinery gross margin to understand underlying site performance versus capability.
  • Generate monthly Loss Profit Opportunity (LPO) values for Toledo.
  • Owns Toledo Performance Loss Accounting (LPA) process.
  • Monthly Refining Economic Report - As part of the monthly Performance Management Reporting (PMR) process, support finance and commercial teams by compiling and generating the monthly gross margin report with focus on the following metrics and KPIs:
    • GM component contribution build up
    • Refinery consumption and production summary
    • Clean fuels and total volume yield KPIs
    • Underlying crude and feedstock values
    • Monthly LPO valuations
  • Monthly Inventory Forecast Reporting - Maintain and provide report out to corporate teams on a monthly basis
  • Solomon Study - Function as site coordinator for Solomon study.

Who you are:

  • Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering or other relevant Engineering field, Accounting, Finance or related subject area required.
  • Minimum 8 years of refining or petrochemical-like plant experience required
  • LP (Spiral) experience

Preferred:

  • Strong mathematical skills - understands key analytical methods and tools and is experienced in creating and maintaining models in spreadsheets and other environments
  • Ability to analyze data and communicate performance results to multiple levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite
  • Demonstrated commercial competence to ensure accurate interpretation and understanding of refining data
  • Drives for Results: Identifies and acts on opportunities to improve gross margin for Toledo.
  • Change Agility: Identifies opportunities to improve existing processes; approaches issues in new ways to solve problems.
  • Communication: Communicates in a clear and concise manner. Provides relevant and timely information about how to improve business performance.
  • Collaboration: Forms relationships and networks within and outside own team. Works collaboratively within teams to achieve common goals.
  • Technical Expertise: Demonstrates a level of knowledge, skill and expertise appropriate for the role. Must have an excellent working knowledge across multiple process units at the refinery.
