Assistant Chief Electoral Officer

Salary: $99,800.00 to $115,857.00 per annum (under review), plus pension and benefits

This is a permanent full-time position, working 75 hours bi-weekly.

Elections Yukon is an independent, non-partisan office of the Legislative Assembly responsible for the preparation and administration. and delivery of fair and compliant elections for members of the Yukon legislature, trustees of school boards, and members of school councils.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to work in a challenging and dynamic work environment. The incumbent will provide senior leadership and strategic vision to assist the office in its mandate. This includes the protection of the integrity of elections, in making electoral services accessible, in continuous improvement and modernization of electoral administration and delivery, and in ensuring electoral readiness for electoral events.

Reporting to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), the Assistant Chief Electoral Officer (ACEO) is a senior position accountable for administration of elections under the Elections Act and the Education Act.

The Assistant Chief Electoral Officer (ACEO):

  • Fosters an organization-wide service-centric approach that emphasizes excellence in service.
  • Maintains oversight of electoral operations, field teams, and election finance matters, information technology and systems development, public information and education programs, ensuring compliance with electoral legislation and implementation of legislative change.
  • Provides leadership and supervision to departments, and exercises control of resource management.
  • Drives the development of electoral transformation strategies, integrating innovative business planning, recommending policies and systems to support the delivery of modern elections, and safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process.
  • If, for any reason, the CEO is unable to act, the ACEO is accountable to assume the full statutory authority of the CEO.


Essential Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or diplomas in related fields (such as Business Administration, Political Science, Commerce, Law) or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Significant leadership/senior management experience overseeing multiple departments or functions
  • Demonstrated strategic leadership skills including developing collaborative teams, implementing training and operational plans, achieving desired outcomes, and managing performance
  • Experience with the interpretation of legislation, statutes, regulations, and policies.
  • Experience developing and communicating policies, procedures and guidelines based on statutory requirements and organizational priorities.
  • Experience managing financial, technological and human resources of an organization.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including presentations, plans, and reports with analysis and recommendations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders.
  • Extensive experience using a variety of computer applications, managing a system for data collection, geomatics and information maintenance.
  • Sound judgment, critical thinking and innovative problem-solving skills to effectively resolve operational issues in a timely and appropriate manner.


Candidates who have education, training, and/or considerable experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above will be equally considered.


Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Suitability
Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the role of Elections Yukon.
  • Knowledge of election legislation, policies and procedures for the conduct of elections.
  • Knowledge of the Yukon and its people.
  • Working knowledge of French.


Additional Information

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be politically non-partisan in both perception and fact.
  • Not qualified to vote in any election conducted under either the Yukon Elections Act or the Education Act.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • A satisfactory criminal check.
  • Valid Yukon Class 5 driver's license.


Job Requirements:

  • Willingness to occasionally travel within or outside of Yukon.
