This is for 1 full-time term position, working 75 hours bi-weekly. Temporary Assignments may be considered.

The Land Management Branch is an effective steward of public land for the benefit of current and future generations of all Yukon people.

The Land Use Officer is responsible for coordinating the land use and quarry permit application process. They provide guidance for the acquisition of permits to the public and diverse client groups. This position reviews all projects assessed by the Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Board (YESAB) for permit requirements and leads the Government of Yukon's input into YESAB for Land Use delegated project assessments. The Land Use Officer reviews and makes recommendations to help inform the decision on YESAB evaluation reports and develops Government of Yukon decision documents as well as participates on various committees and provides research expertise and input into the development of policies and legislations.

Essential Qualifications

  • Diploma in natural resource management, environmental science or a related field
  • Experience interpreting and applying legislation related to natural resource management, preferably in a government setting
  • Experience working in a client service environment providing information to and working collaboratively with the public and diverse client groups
  • Experience researching and analyzing complex issues and providing advice and options to management
  • Experience working with the Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Act (YESAA) would be considered an asset
